Safety is the top priority in high-risk industries, and with the UK Health & Safety Executive attributing up to 80% of accidents to human error, addressing human factors training is essential alongside technical training for front-line teams.
A key example is the commercial airline industry, which saw fatal accidents plateau in the 1980s despite technological advances. Recognising the need to tackle human error, Crew Resource Management training became mandatory in 1988. By 2017, the industry achieved its first zero-fatality year. Now, many other sectors are following suit by adopting human factors training.
